Cigar News- New Davidoff Nicaragua Sizes!

So as previously posted - I became mildly addicted to the Davidoff Nicaragua (smoking 3 day is mild in my mind). So I was reading through all my emails and I saw Cigar Aficionado release that Davidoff is adding 2 new sizes to the Nicaragua Line.

Building on their success with short smokes they are releasing a Davidoff Nicaragua Primero. This is a small cigar (4 1/8 x 34) but if it is like the Nicaragua Toro it will have huge flavor. They will be sold in tins of six just like their Natural and Maduro counterparts. This is a great 15 - 20 minute smoke and perfect for lunch breaks!

The second size will be the longest size they will offer- a 6 1/2 x 50 Perfecto shape called the Diadema Fina.

These cigars are made in the Dominican Republic using 100% Nicaragua Tobacco. For more information about the line click here.

Cigar News - Cohiba Comodor Releases New Sizes!

Back In January, I wrote about the new Cohiba Comodor (Click Here To Read It). Since the release of the Comodor, we have not been able to keep them on our shelves. This cigar has been a massive hit for Cohiba and Jay-Z.

I was happy to hear that General Cigars is releasing more quantity and releasing 2 new sizes. To accompany the original Toro 6 x 52, General is releasing a Gigante 6 x 60 and a Double Corona 7 1/4 x 54. The larger formats should introduce exciting new flavor profiles and we are excited to test them out.

All three sizes will retain the same formula of tobacco including Cohiba's rare and extremely limited Connecticut Habana Wrapper. The Toro was filled with rich delicious tobacco flavors, medium - full body, and thick creamy smoke.

The new formats will be released in new 10- Count matte black boxes and I will have some by the end of June.

Perfect Match: Great Beers To Drink While Smoking A Cigar!

One of the toughest problems (not really a problem when you think about it) when smoking a cigar is deciding what to drink with it. I tend to go for a Scotch like a Macallan; however, I do tend to stray for a craft beer occasionally. Over the weekend, while smoking with a lifelong buddy,  he brought a Dogfish Head 90-Minute IPA and it was a delicious compliment to the cigars we smoked. This was the first time I have had this beer and after doing a little bit of research I admit... I have been living under a rock! Now, I am not a beer snob by any means (hence the cigar blog) so if you have anymore recommendations I would love to hear them.

Here is a list of 5 great beers to drink and what to smoke with them:

Dogfish Head 90-Minute IPA

1. Dogfish Head 90-Minute IPA- This smooth and creamy craft beer is DELICIOUS. Esquire Magazine called it "perhaps the best I.P.A. in America." Despite the high alcohol content, you don't get the alcohol bite with this beer. This is a great beer to have with a mild, creamy and very smooth cigar like a Macanudo or what we smoked the Diamond Crown Robusto.

Stone Brewing Imperial Russian Stout

2. Stone Brewing Imperial Russian Stout - I first tried this beer when I lived in San Diego as I was looking for a really good local beer. I found exactly what I was looking for in this dark, rich and strong beer! This Stout is thick and full of flavors like roasted coffee and anise. This beer is only available during spring and is usually released during April so pick one up if you see it. This is the perfect beer to enjoy with a strong Nicaraguan like Padron.

Leffe Brown

3. Leffe Brown - Leffe Brown is an authentic abbey beer. Medium in body- it's deep, dark brown color and its full, slightly sweet flavor can be ascribed to the use of darkly roasted malt. This beer pairs great with a  medium bodied Dominican like an Arturo Fuente Don Carlos.

Anchor Brewing Porter
4. Anchor Brewing Porter - I first had this beer after reading it was #6 in the top 25 beers of 2013. This delicious dark beer is surprisingly light on the palette with roasted coffee and chocolate flavors. Not a storng beer by any means but a tasty sidekick to any mild to medium Nicaraguan cigars like Davidoff Nicaragua.

Chimay Grande Reserve Blue Cap
5. Chimay Grande Reserve Blue Cap - This Belgium beer is known for its thick creamy foam, but don't let that fool you, it has a powerful aroma and complex flavors. It is also aged for 5 years before its release which add a balance factor that makes it outstanding. Enjoy this with an medium to full bodied Dominican like a Litto Gomez Diez or Davidoff Millenium Blend.

If anyone has any favorites, please let me know. I am always looking for great pairings!

Brizard & Co.'s Dual Flamed Lighters - Power meets Sophistication!

I know it is Monday but damn what a good weekend! With an NBA record 5 game- 7 matches, exciting Kentucky Derby, and some really good cigars. I hope you all had a similar enjoyable weekend!

Today, we are featuring a brand of accessories that I think represents everything a cigar smoker is- Timeless, Sophisticated & Reliable. Brizard & Co. has been producing high quality cigar accessories for over 10 years and is the leader in leather & wooden cigar accessories.

Before the Environmentalists start in on deforestation and global effects, Cyril Brizard (Founder of Brizard & Co.) partnered with the Forest Stewardship Council (FST), which sets standards for responsible forest management. Through this organization he is able to get his hands on some of the most exquisite wood like Bubinga, Ebony Macassar, Zebrawood & Rosewood and ply them directly onto cutters, lighters and cases without committing any crimes against nature.

The T-30 "Gemini" is one of the most responsive and reliable lighters I have ever had my hands on. This lighter packs a powerful punch with its dual torch flames, strong metal body, a built-in 8mm cigar punch and fuel level window. All of these on their own would produce a great lighter; however, with Brizard's leather and wood style these lighters stand alone as stylish pieces.

Happy Friday Cigar Smokers!

Photo provided by Cigar Aficionado
Hopefully you didn't work to hard this week, in case you did, here is some great news:

Cigar Aficionado is posting that "PadrĂłn Family Preparing Two Cigars for 50th Anniversary"!

Umm...YES!

They go on to say: "One of the two cigars will become part of the PadrĂłn Family Reserve line, and is tentatively entitled PadrĂłn Family Reserve 50. The smoke will likely be five inches long with a ring gauge of 54, and made with well-aged Nicaraguan tobaccos, many of them grown by the PadrĂłns themselves. This smoke will be made on a continuing basis, but not in large quantities.

The second PadrĂłn 50th anniversary smoke will be far more rare, and will come packaged in a high-end humidor containing 50 cigars. Each humidor will be numbered, and each cigar in the series will be individually numbered as well. Humidor No. 1, for example, will contain cigars No. 1 through 50. There will be at least 500 humidors made, and the PadrĂłns are offering the chance for refills. "Whoever buys the box will have the opportunity to purchase another 50 cigars a year for five years," said Jorge PadrĂłn."
Read the full Cigar Aficionado article here: Padron 50th Anniversary Cigars
I love Padron's just like the next cigar smoker, so you better believe I am getting my hands on a box or a dozen.
I am accepting names, email addresses and phone numbers for pre-orders. It is first come first serve so put your information in the Contact Form and I will let you know more information as it is released!
Happy Friday,

Diamond Crown Cigars- Sweet. Strong & Delicious

Diamond Crown- one of the most cherished cigar brands in the world. Handmade at Tabacalera A. Fuente by the very best Master Rollers, the Cuban-seed filler and Dominican binder contain a complex blend of six to seven individual Dominican tobacco leaves. Each Diamond Crown cigar undergoes a thorough inspection process only the best cigars get released.

J.C. Newman Cigar Company’s long history dates back more than a century to 1895, when Julius Caeser Newman rolled his first cigars in the family barn in Cleveland, Ohio. Starting out as a one-man cigar factory, they prospered through decades and make some of the tastiest cigars on the market.

In celebration of his J.C. Newman Cigar Company's upcoming 100th Anniversary, Stanford Newman wanted to develop a truely exceptional series of cigars unlike any other on the market. He didn't care what it would cost, how much time it took, or even if it would sell. Stanford was in his mid 70s and he wanted to culminate his 50+ years in the cigar business by creating the smoothest, most flavorful, full-bodied cigar possible- thus the birth of Diamond Crown.

Diamond Crown Robusto - Diamond Crown cigars are extraordinary and exceptional Smokes.  This Top-of-the-line, exclusive Cigar has the rarest Connecticut Shade Fermented Wrapper (CFW) available for Cigar production and they take five years to reach peak quality.  It is this "second curing" that evens and develops the Rosado color of the tobacco wrapper and also accounts for much of Diamond Crown's sweet, smooth, rich flavor.

Diamond Crown Maximus -  The Diamond Crown Maximus is made with Carlito Fuente's secret blend of specially aged Dominican tobaccos, and a Special wrapper leaf, which has been exclusively grown on the El Bajo region of Ecuador. The combination creates a delicious and remarkably smooth, full-flavored cigar. This 90+ rated smoke will definitely please all full-bodied fans!

Diamond Crown Julius Caeser -  This ultra premium cigar is rolled by hand in small batches by, Tabacalera A. Fuente. This delicious cigar uses a Ultra-Rare Ecuadorian Cuban-seed wrapper and exquisite tobacco from Central America. The tobacco used for the Julius Caeser Cigars are aged for five years releasing robust full flavors.  Available in limited quantities, these cigars are highly coveted and hard to find.

Davidoff Cigars- Epitome of Sophistication!

Last week I posted about the Davidoff Puro D' Oro line and I received an unexpected amount of emails asking about Davidoff cigars. This surprised me as Davidoff is a brand that every all cigar smokers should be familiar with and/or regularly smoke! They are by far the most consistent cigars with unbelievable construction and flavor.

Zino Davidoff was born in the tobacco industry- literally. Zino’s family owned and operated a tobacco shop in Geneva Switzerland tobacco shop, where communist leader Vladimir Lenin was a regular customer. Zino’s dedication to the family business was present at an early age. At the age of 19, Zino traveled to South America, where he devoted himself to studying the farming and development of tobacco. Upon his return to Geneva, Zino brought his knowledge to the family business, inventing new storage methods (Creator of the Humidor) and testing new tobacco blends. In 1947, with the release of his highly praised Chateaux line, Davidoff became and still remains a symbol of pleasure and sophistication.

Currently offering 9 different blends, Davidoff has some thing for everyone:

Nicaragua- Mild-Medium bodied smoke with sweet and              creamy notes combined with spices and white pepper.  #3              Cigar of 2013!

Aniversario- Mild to Medium bodied smoke
with surprising lightness, dominated by a
      rich intense aroma.

·         Classic- Mild to Medium bodied smoke using
“classic” sizes that produce some of the best
       well-balanced aromas.

·         Grand Cru- The line that started it all- while maintaining
the same sizes that were produced in 1946- Medium to
Full bodied with robust flavors of earth and white
      pepper from start to finish.

·         Maduro- The only Maduro Davidoff has ever produced;
this cigar encapsulates rich, toasty flavors in a
medium-bodied presentation while offering thick smoke
      and a long-lasting finish.

·         Mille- Medium bodied smoke with hints of coffee
and woody, earthy notes finished off with sweet,
      creamy slightly floral aftertastes.

·         Millennium Blend- Full-flavored, full-bodied cigar with
creamy notes of earth and cedar masked by spicy
characteristics with a tasty, long finish. By far the most
      popular Davidoff line extension.

·         Puro D’Oro- Exclusive to Davidoff, the Yamasa wrapper
provides a medium-bodied array of earthy flavors while
giving you THICK smoke and a smooth yet semi-bold
character, Puro d'Oro is a true connoisseur's cigar.

·         Special Series- Medium bodied and “Special” shapes/sizes,
this cigar uses an Ecuadorian wrapper that produces spice
      and nutty flavors.

This is an amazing brand and I would like to offer you something really special to try them- Buy any box of Davidoff cigars and get a FREE Black Chinese Lacquer Zino cutter- a $150 value!

In the words of Zino Davidoff- “Pleasure is a thing of beauty” and I wish you many "beautiful" escapes while smoking these delicious cigars!

Davidoff Puro D' Oro- The Jewel of Yamasa D.R.

Oh Boy, do we have a treat for you this week! This cigar raises the bar and defines what a great Dominican cigar should taste like. This cigar is the Davidoff Puro D' Oro!

Released in 2010, this line is the result of the passionate search for perfection by Hendrik "Henke" Kelner, Davidoff's Master Blender. He spent countless hours for over 10 years growing and developing the delicious Yamasa wrapper, exclusively used for the Davidoff Puro D' Oro.

Measuring only at 170 Square Miles (Rhode Island is 1,214 Sq Mi) the very small Yamasa region has reddish soil that is enriched with minerals and according to Henke also has the "Perfect" weather conditions for producing great tobacco. Henke compared working with the farm and blending the tobacco to taming a fine horse. “It was a white horse, a stallion, difficult with lots of energy. Today, the stallion is domesticated.”

At the core of the Puro D' Oro is a blend of select 4 year old Dominican tobacco. The result is an exceptionally pure and very, very rich, blend that releases the aromas of roasted coffee, chocolate, pepper and spices.

This is a high quality medium bodied smoke with a nice long finish that every cigar smoker should have at least once in their lives if not regularly!

San Lotano Habano Oval- A.J. Fernandez Revives A Legend!

When it comes to producing high quality cigars, A.J. Fernandez is quickly rising to the top of many lists. His Tabacalera Fernandez produce over 9 million cigars a year including the popular Man O' War, Diesel, Morro Castle, and 5 Vegas Triple-A lines. His blends have captivated us and his San Lotano Oval- Habano is no exception!

Starting in a dilapidated factory in Esteli, Nicaragua and only six rollers, he c
ame on to the scene by producing cigars for other manufactures like Rocky Patel. In 2010, Fernandez reintroduced the San Lotano brand and introduced the Oval shape- thus adding more notches to his impressive resume.

The San Lotano brand dates back to Cuba's pre-Castro era where the brand was among the most popular with traditional Cuban cigar makers. Retired for decades, the line is revived by Fernandez whose grandfather first started the brand in San Luis, Cuba.

Featuring a distinctively-shaped press finish that looks like, you guessed it, an oval, and a blend of tobaccos that's equally as unique, San Lotano Oval is truly a special cigar. Sporting a toothy and scrumptious Habano 2000 wrapper and brimming with rich Nicaraguan and Honduran long fillers, San Lotano Oval is primed for flavor. Accenting the blend further is a secret filler, known only to the people at Tabacalera Fernandez.

Despite its nontraditional appearance, this shape perfectly complements this masterfully blended handmade, creating an amazingly smooth and balanced experience. Expect notes of leather, nuts, and spice backed by a long, rich finish. Medium to full-bodied, the Oval burns and draws spot on. Unlike anything else, and that's a good thing.

San Lotano Oval received five separate 91-point ratings, one of which earned it a spot in the Top 25 Cigars of the Year. But this one in particular says it all perfectly: "Crafted with a very round head and ovular edges, the flat corona is rich with steady notes of leather, wood and dried cherry. The draw is even and lush throughout"

This is a "WOW" cigar that always leaves us begging for another. Do yourself a favor and pick some up while you can!

Cigar Review: Oliva Master Blends 3

It is time for something really special and delicious this week. As you know from my previous posts, I love Nicaraguan cigars. While I do venture out and try new things, I always find my way back to them. This weeks cigar review is no exception, in fact it is a leading cause of my love for Nicaraguans-

Oliva Master Blends 3

Every year, the Oliva family cultivates a limited amount of fine tobaccos to create a rare line of super premium cigars. The blend of the cigar is based solely on the quality of the leaves harvested, which often results in an entirely new cigar from year to year. Due to the rarity of the tobacco harvested, the Oliva family reserves these cigar
s for “family use” only and prevented them from being released to the public. Thanks to Oliva’s commitment to improving quality and growing techniques, these ultra premium cigars are available for the public in limited quantities.

The Master Blends 3 'Liga Maestra' series is a limited-edition, artisan-crafted cigars of private estate selection quality. This is the third installment of the Master Blends line by Oliva and follows the highly successful “1” released in 2003 and “2” released in 2005. Each of the three versions of the Master Blends line has had a different wrapper: Habano for the Master Blends 1, Sumatra for the Master Blends 2 and the Master Blends 3 uses a special Sun-Grown Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper.

At the core of the cigar is a blend of Nicaraguan Ligero leaves all bound by a Nicaraguan Habano leaf and finished off with a specially selected Connecticut Broadleaf. The result is a complex cigar with flavors expected of Nicaraguan cigar- earthy notes of chocolate, espresso, leather and a delicious black pepper spice.

Cigar Snob recently rated this impressive cigar a 92 saying "A beautifully constructed cigar covered with a flavorful wrapper. This cigar produces volumes of smoke with balanced notes of roasted nuts, pepper, and earth with an underlying sweetness throughout."

Happy Smoking,

Quorum Cigars- Best Bang For Your Buck Bundle

When Julius Caeser Newman rolled his first cigars in the family barn in Cleveland, Ohio did he see this company growing into what it is today? What started as a one-man cigar factory grew into one of the most prosperous companies that manufacture some of the world’s most premium handmade cigars.

J.C. Newman is America's oldest family-owned premium cigar makers, and also the last operating cigar factory in Cigar City (Tampa, Florida). The portfolio that JC Newman has developed is impeccable: Diamond Crown is a highly popular cigar and as well as a bestselling brand of humidors and cigar accessories. The Brick House is one of the most reliable smokes on the market and was rated the top valued premium cigar of 2009 by Cigar Aficionado. But what caught my eye and really is the point of this is the Quorum bundle.

In an exclusive interview with Cigar Aficionado, J.C. Newman president Eric Newman said that Quorum had sales of about 8 million units per year, growing at 15 percent annually. 8 Million Units? For a cigar that most of the people reading this has never heard of?

Quorum is not a super premium cigar; you do not get one on the top shelf at a Vegas cigar lounge, in fact it has not even been rated in Cigar Aficionado. But Quorum remains as one of the world’s most popular handmade cigar sold in bundles, why? Consistency, Flavor and Value!

Quorum is one of the first cigars I ever bought- I was in high school going to a bonfire and it was $3. What I found was a cigar so easy to smoke and enjoy I still smoke it to this day! This handmade with has some savory and spicy notes due to its Nicaraguan filler and binder. Each cigar also features a special sun grown Ecuadorian wrapper leaf that adds to Quorum’s delightfully nutty, smooth, medium-bodied flavor.

Smoke magazine had this to say about the Quorum:

These cigars could easily be sold for three to four dollars a stick and nobody would complain. For the medium bodied smoker who enjoys a nice everyday smoke and doesn't want to break the bank, this cigar is for you. The beautiful thing about a Quorum cigar is that it’s the perfect cigar for every day smoking, but it allows you to splurge on higher end cigars for special occasions.

Click HERE to enjoy this delicious cigar for yourself!
